As the lighting design and implementation force behind the project, Shangyu Lighting integrated MERCANVEE luminaires to choreograph a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, solid and void. Here, light transcends mere functionality, emerging as a narrative medium that bridges architectural space and cultural resonance. Through meticulously orchestrated lighting scenarios, the team crafted poetic gradations of brightness, evoking an ambiance of serenity and timeless elegance. Each curated interplay of illumination invites visitors into a meditative journey, where light whispers tales of heritage and ethereal beauty.

Where Literature Breathes with Nature

Light dances through the space like Dianchi Lake's morning mist grazing the pages of open books. In the reading lounge, a veil of layered wooden lattices frames the scene — dappled shadows cascade through the slits, crafting an arboreal chiaroscuro reminiscent of bamboo groves along Emerald Lake (Cuihu). As fingertips trace ancient texts, the whispers of rustling leaves permeate parchment; words no longer lie inert, for here, the play of light etches poetry onto shelves, and texts seem to inhale the very essence of nature.

The sinuous sofa and undulating light strips engage in a choreography of curves, while warm golden beams — reminiscent of twilight hues — embrace the seating ensemble. This luminous cocoon dissolves boundaries between interior and landscape. On the wall, relief sculptures reimagine ancient Kunming cartography; MERCANVEE's wall-washing fixtures amplify the's tactile depth, etching patterns that appear textured with time itself. Sipping tea here, one might almost hear echoes of camel bells from the Tea-Horse Road caravans, as centuries-old trade routes materialize through the alchemy of light and shadow.
